ShapeDiver

Publish a script from NodePen straight to ShapeDiver, as a new model or as the newest version of one you already have. There is no .gh file to download and upload again: NodePen exports the script and hands it to ShapeDiver for you, as you.

What it can do

  • Publish a script as a new model. The model is named after the script, and the definition is the script as it last solved.
  • Publish a new version over a model. Publishing over one of your models adds the script as its newest version, and carries over what you set up on ShapeDiver (see New versions below). The model's link moves to the new version, so anything already pointing at it, such as an embed or an app, picks up the change. The version before stays in the model's history on ShapeDiver.

Set it up

  1. Open a script, and choose Export... from its menu.
  2. On the ShapeDiver tab, choose Connect ShapeDiver.
  3. Sign in to ShapeDiver and allow NodePen access. You sign in on ShapeDiver itself, so NodePen never sees your password.
  4. You come back to the script with the ShapeDiver tab open, and your account at the bottom of it.

The link is your own, for one team. Everyone on the team who publishes connects their own ShapeDiver account, and what they publish lands in that account. If you're on more than one team, connect each one separately.

To disconnect, choose Ɨ next to your name at the bottom of the tab. The arrow beside it opens your ShapeDiver dashboard.

ShapeDiver organizations

If your ShapeDiver account is in an organization, your role there has to allow uploading models. Consumers can't publish, and neither can suspended members. The tab says so if that's you: ask one of the organization's administrators to make you a User.

Publish a script

Solve the script at least once first: what gets published is its latest solution.

  1. Under Link model, pick where the script goes. As a new model makes a new one. Otherwise, pick one of your models to publish over it. A linked model shows its link, when it last changed, and how many versions it has; the arrow beside it opens it on ShapeDiver.
  2. Under Publish, choose Publish. With no model picked, a new ShapeDiver model is created.

The button reads Publishing... until ShapeDiver has checked the definition. Once it passes, the model is live, and the script is linked to it for next time. If ShapeDiver turns the definition down, the tab says so, and the model's page on ShapeDiver says why.

The list shows the models in your own ShapeDiver account, newest version of each, most recently changed first.

Scripts that need review

ShapeDiver reviews by hand any definition with script components in it, such as C# or Python. A review can take a few hours, and ShapeDiver emails you when it's done. The tab shows This script requires review. in the meantime. See ShapeDiver's Are Grasshopper script components supported?

New versions

A new version keeps the model's name, and takes over what was set up on the version before it, the same way updating a model on ShapeDiver itself does:

  • Its description, tags and visibility.
  • Who can reach it: allowed domains, backend access, whether it needs a token, webhooks and direct embedding.
  • Its viewer settings, and how each parameter, output and export is named, grouped, ordered and shown. Parameter values aren't carried over: those come from the script.
  • Who it's shared with.
  • Its link, which moves from the old version to the new one.

Anything ShapeDiver refuses to carry over is left out without failing the publish. Set it again on the model's page on ShapeDiver.

You can only publish over the newest version of a model. If someone published a newer one since you opened the tab, publish over that one instead.
